With Spring just around the corner, it’s time to start planning for an outdoor garden. My husband and I spent last weekend creating a new raised bed garden in our backyard, and it proved to be a really fun opportunity to get outside, work on the yard and soak up the Savannah sun.
We planted five tomatoes (two grape tomato plants and three better boy plants), three cucumbers, two jalapenos, two bell peppers (one green and one red variety), one cilantro, and one lemon thyme to add to our rosemary and oregano herbs. I’d also like to add some basil and parsley, but we’ll see how these do for now.
Here is a recent article I wrote for Suite 101 about how to plan a vegetable and herb garden, along with information and tips for raised bed gardens.
I also recently wrote an article for the Savannah Morning News on the Telfair Academy Guild’s upcoming annual fundraiser, The Artful Table. This year, the guest lecturer is Remco van Vliet, a third-generation Dutch floral designer and co-owner of the event design company Van Vliet and Trap in New York City. I had the pleasure of interviewing him for the article. Mr. van Vliet’s floral design work has been featured in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the New York Philharmonic and many other well-known clients and venues worldwide.
